Microsoft DirectX is the latest version of DirectX which offers superior support for DirectX compatible games and other complex multimedia applications.

In other words, is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based computers an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements such as full-color graphics, video, 3D animation, and rich audio. DirectX includes security and performance updates, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using the DirectX APIs. DirectX contains lots of APIs, such as DirectDraw (for drawing 2D Graphics); Direct3D (D3D): for drawing 3D graphics; XInput for Xbox 360 controllers; DirectSound: for the playback and recording of waveform sounds; DirectInput: for interfacing with input devices including keyboards, mice, joysticks, or other game controllers and many other APIs.
